Faux Flowers

Almost a year ago I was stuck in an airport with my husband on the way to visit his parents.  To pass the time the delay had caused I went into the bookstore and bought a copy of a Martha Stewart Wedding magazine.  When I came out of the store my husband looked at me blankly.

“Um, we are already married,” he stated.  The question that he posed was obviously ‘why does a married girl buy a bridal magazine?’

“Yes,” I said, “but look at the pretty flowers they made!  It tells how to make them in here!”  He’s used to my reasoning so he shrugged his shoulders and began to read his own magazine again.

The point.

Ever since I looked at that magazine I have been eager to create faux flowers out of fabric, paper, and other items.  And yet, not eager enough to actually complete the task.  I have seen so many different ideas and tutorials online that I thought I would try some out and create a list of my favorites.

I love real flowers.  That’s what I had in my wedding.  There are perks to fake flowers.  They can be created far in advance so you can see the finished product before the big day arrives.  They can also be used a bridal shower decorations, wedding favor decorations, etc.  Crafting is also a good way to get rid of some of that nervous energy planning a wedding can create.  Stay tuned for some faux flower inspiration.

After the Aisle Tip: Faux flowers can be used in non-wedding decorations too – a girly birthday party, a baby shower, even just to replace bows on a pretty package.

Color of 2011

Did you know that Pantone, the authority of color in the design world, chooses a color to represent the year?

The color of 2011?  Honeysuckle.

Click here to see Pantone’s press release for the 2011 color.

Dessy has a collection of bridesmaids dresses that are official Pantone colors.  They even have a design board where you can create an inspiration board of wedding colors and dress styles.

If your still trying to decide what color is right for your wedding you should check it out!

After the Aisle Tip: Pantone offers a line of paints which means your home can be inspired by tools the website offers.  The website can be used to help plan your next birthday party or dinner party.  You can use Pantone for color inspiration anywhere!

Congratulations on Your Engagement!

If you are beginning to feel overwhelmed with all of the decision making that goes into planning a wedding, I completely understand!  Although I am not currently planning my wedding, I was married in May 2008, I’ve been busy helping gather information, ideas, and inspiration for my brother’s wedding.

My brother and his fiancee want a fairly traditional wedding  They want their ceremony in a church and then the reception in a separate location.  One thing my brother’s fiancee wants in a church is a center aisle.  One thing my brother wants is the minister from his church (which doesn’t have a center aisle).  Since my brother’s fiancee lives in Corbin, KY and the wedding was being planned in Louisville I was picked to help find the location.  The thing I noticed in helping gather information is how hard it was to find out these details about churches.

You seriously have to hunt every part of the church’s website (if they even have a website) to find out if they have a center aisle, or if you can have an outside minister, or if you have to be a church member, etc.  I found it to be a very frustrating first step in wedding planning.

The goal of Dashing Down the Aisle is to provide a guide to getting married in Louisville.  All of the details you need to know about churches and other ceremony sites in one place so that the first step of wedding planning can go as smoothly as possible.  Along the way we hope to provide valuable information about reception sites, places for rehearsal dinners, and other wedding vendors.  And of course tons of inspiration!
